Hats off to you

There has never been a doubt why Rich is truly loved by all of his fans. What he does inside the octagon is amazing, but outside the octagon is incredible. Just the thought of Rich putting a smile on our American Soldiers and Sailors Faces, or pulling them away from there dangerous duties for a day, hour, or minute, says a lot about who Rich is and the support he has for our Troops. Hats off to you Rich!!!!

Enjoying emails

Thanks so much. I am not sure how I got signed up, and at first I really didn't pay attention to the emails. But latley I have and do enjoy them. Rich has become one of my favorite fighters since, mainly because you get to know him better from the emails. He's has a great attitude and outlook on life.

I just wanted to say that I thoroughly appreciate Rich’s thoughts on the various topics he discusses. I’m not a fighter, just a fight fan from DFW that really respects Rich and seeing his Christianity shine through on many different subjects. Rich, from a long time drummer, keep drummin’!!!

Awesome edition!

What an awesome edition of American Fighter. It made my day! Well said! Rich, please write more of your thoughts on spiritual matters. Maybe you've done that a lot, I don't know, I'm a recent subscriber, but wow, thanks a lot man! By the way, I'm a fellow Cincinnatian and Christian. Refreshing

Thanks so much for this email. You are very articulate and it is refreshing to hear your Christian views. Think of how many believers this will reach and how many others it could help to think about coming to Christ. I am also a Christian, new to the faith, not a fanatic, and not crazy, just a new believer and a HUGE fan of Rich and Evan Tanner and UFC in general and I just wanted to let you know that I appreciate your thoughts and comments!!

A man of God

It is always so great to hear Rich talk about his faith. I love to watch Rich fight in the octagon, but what really strikes me about him is that he is a man of God. This is by far the best equation that I've ever had the privilege of reading. Sometimes it's easy to forget how much God loves and cares about us, but it is even easier to remember that He's always there.

The reason why...

Wow! This describes my own struggle with the issue of why bad things happen to good people. Thanks Rich. People will endure anything if they know the reason why. For me the reason why we should have hope in the midst of suffering was given on the road to Emmaus by Jesus.

My hat is off to you

In this day and age I am so glad that someone in the publics eye, like Rich, is not afraid to express his faith in God. I am a huge ufc fan and am always glad to see the way he handles himself--win or lose --in a respectful manner. I dont have to worry about watching the ufc when Rich is on there with my kid and having to hear nothing but beeped out words. I also think it is great that you support our troops the way you do--people need to stand up and take note. My hat is off to you not only as a fighter but as a person. keep on striving. Thank you.

I'm wondering why there are some bad things that happen but like you said maybe without suffering we would not know happiness and never seek God's help. Thanks for being real and a stand up man.     You've have been and will continue to be one of my favorite athletes, let alone my favorite MMA fighter. I love that you turn to your faith when confronted with tough or untimely circumstances. You've been a help to me in ways that you probably will never know. It's very easy for me to relate your experiences that you talk about in your "Franklin Equation" with personal experiences and just knowing someone else feels the same way I do or has been through something similar helps.

Bold Testimony

Please pass on to Rich that I am most appreciative of his bold testimony of faith, and for sharing such personal and spiritual experiences with his fans. As another one of Evan’s fans (and of course Rich’s!), I am still coming to terms with his loss – what a natural talent and God-given skill, but unfortunately he carried what appeared to be a tormented and troubled soul.

I am thankful to God for people just like you Rich. You are the very type of role model I am proud to have my children look up to – and yes, my 8-year old daughter cheers for you every time!

Breaking the perception

Thanks for sending that out. As a UFC fan, Christian and Martial Artist, I find great comfort in Rich's ability to be a skillfull fighter and writer. He is helping break the perception of brutal men that just want to bring damage to another human. I wanted to weep when I heard about Tanner. I live in Texas and he was very proud to call this state his home. I don't know if he was a Christian, but my hope is before he passed he made peace with God. So thank you again for such a great write up and keep up all the good work. Oh... Keep Fighting, Keep Training, till you Get that Belt One More Time!! God Bless.

Something bigger than us

Excellent Franklin equation. Everyone can relate to this in a simple and understandable way. Often times, people are so clouded by daily life, that it is only in times of sadness or despair that we are forced to introspect. It can be a scary thing to think about (might be why some run away from faith). For me, introspection can be very thought provoking, almost comforting in a way. Knowing that there is something bigger than all of us, keeps us grounded.

Not exempt from tough times

Very deep. I don't know who I am responding to and if this is the right way to respond but I just wanted to write and say that this article actually meant a lot to me. I'm a big UFC fan and Rich is definitely my favorite fighter. He's not my favorite fighter because of the way fights, which is definitely outstanding, but rather the way he conducts himself. The guy never has a bad thing to say about someone, he never makes excuses and he shows tremendous character.

We all go through some tough times in our life, no one is exempt. And in those tough times I also turn to my faith in God. But there are times when life just doesn't make sense and you'll never be able to grasp why certain things happened. In my time of adversity, it actually gives me increased strength to hear Rich has had these struggles and has gone through these same things but yet he continues to believe and push forward.

You are one of my favorite fighters, not only because of your abilities in the octagon, but your attitude and personality outside of the octagon as well. You are a true professional and that can be very hard to do as a fighter. You also seem to be a very caring person with a lot of good character qualities and integrity. Keep up the good work. Spirit, respect and class

Your attitude Rich is that of what a professional fighter's should be. Your career/job is to be a fighter and you show no real anger or hate towards your opponents, but you show respect and the best fighting spirit there is. If it wasn't for your respect and class in all your fights, I would have probably not have taken up the sport of MMA, but I have due to the martial arts spirit, respect and class you have, thank you Rich.

Walk the walk

I would agree that animosity and disdain for an adversary might only cloud one's judgment and impair the precise execution of one's objectives and duties...It seems an improper focus of energy, particularly in your line of work...The soldiers [overseas] really appreciate how you are willing to walk the walk, and show your support [by visiting the troops], as opposed to those people who merely talk the talk...

Everyone should be aware of how quickly life can be taken from you. I know I try to savor every moment that I can. Train hard for Hamill, good luck I will be watching.

Blink of an eye

I'm sorry about the loss of your father. He was very young, but I don't need to tell you that he's still with you in spirit, because you probably know that already. To quote something I heard once "Every man dies, but not every man lives." It's all a blink of an eye in time, but it's what you do in that blink that truly marks whether you lived or not.

To Rich and Beth

I love the heck out of you guys and what you do for the sport of MMA. I just can't say enough good things about you two to everyone and the fact that you all are from my backyard is great too b/c as much as I love the Bengals and Reds, Rich has brought more gold to the city than either of those teams.

Out with the garbage

Very timely and excellent Franklin Equation this week. It really hit home for me as these past few weeks have been very very difficult at work and I am rudderless at the moment. Looking at this monthly number allows for greater focus on the things that truly matter and time wasting activities (or careers) need to be thrown out with the garbage. Thanks for putting life (and death) in perspective...

Thanks for the advice

My name is Robert Santiago and I recently wrote to you from Iraq asking how you stay motivated over time. Your advice couldn't have some at a better time. The grappling tournament I am going to be in is less than 30 days away, and we have been conducting alot of missions lately. I boasted about getting a response out of an accomplished mixed martial artist, and everyone was just as stoked as I am. I just wanted to say thanks for the insight when my motivation was failing.

Very well written. Amazing aspect of Rich and the reason I believe many people like myself consider him the best fighter ever is a result of him not cowering away from the fact he is human...which is more than we can say about other fighters. I've followed Rich's career since the fight with Shamrock because I was (and remain) impressed with how classy Rich was and how he carried himself like a grown man who has family and friends and a name to keep up, as opposed to someone willing to act like a fool for 5 minutes of fame.

Being an outsider looking in, it is hard for me to imagine the determination and self-discipline it takes to do the process that Rich does for every fight. I have a hard time giving up my favorites for one day! But when you have that drive, I guess anything is possible. For me, inspiration is what gets me motivated.
